New York Fashion Week
Saturday, February 11, 2012
| Orie, Melisa, Elizabeth and Yukari | Hello, friends! What's new with you guys? Things at Beyond Vintage have been busy as usual. Like most of the New York fashion industry, I've been feverishly preparing for fashion week. It's the one week of the year when all of our buyers from across the world fly to New York to see the new Fall collection. I spend 6 months preparing for this week and it flies by in a whirlwind of appointments and lace. This season we kicked off our market early, beginning with Bergdorf Goodman. The appointment went so well, we got a great reaction to the line! Yesterday we knocked 'em dead with our first Japanese appointment, Journal Standard. Here's a picture of Yukari and Orie, the Journal Standard buyers, with Melisa, our international account executive, and myself. Yukari and Orie have the most amazing style, they always look so adorable. The Fall 2012 line may be finished, but my mind is already planning spring. No rest for the weary ;) Until next week! xo, Elizabeth Song of the week: "Blues" by Alton Miller |

Retro Fashion

| Retro Fashion available on Amazon | Hello again, friends, do I have a crazy story for you! About three years ago, right around the time of our inception, I received an email from a publisher in Antwerp called Tectum. They wanted to know if they could use a few pictures from Beyond Vintage in an upcoming book. This was a couple months after our launch so I was incredibly busy making sure BV was running smoothly. I said sure, got back to business and never gave it a second thought. Fast forward to a couple weeks ago ... Maggie, our senior designer, had been browsing her favorite bookstore {St. Mark's Bookshop} and purchased this super cool book called Retro Fashion. It wasn't until she got home and took a closer look that she realized it was the Belgian book from years ago! What are the odds?! Check out our Facebook page for a shot of Beyond Vintage on pages 16 and 17. We were so excited we couldn't wait to post a picture to share with everyone. Until next week! xo, Elizabeth Song of the week: "Believing is Art" by Spoon from Girls Can Tell |

Press Parties and Playlists
Friday, January 27, 2012
Hello again! What have you been up to this week? My primary focus has been a press breakfast we hosted in the showroom. We invited our favorite editors and stylists to eat some goodies, drink mimosas and preview the fall line. It sounds simple, right? That's what I thought ... until I started planning the event. I packed up my china, bought flowers, ran all over Long Island picking out my favorite breakfast treats, begged Sarah (our production manager) to bake her yummy blueberry muffins and held onto my seat. I always feel nervous before I show a new season, but at the end of the day we had a great turnout and the reaction was wonderful. Getting positive feedback from the press always calms my nerves before fashion week. Thank you to the BV team for helping me pull this off! Amidst the stress of designing and planning, making goody bags for the attendees was one part of the process that allowed me to totally decompress. Each bag contained a piece from the collection plus a little vintage love. Some people got a handful of buttons, others a pin or a pair of earrings. The trinkets were wrapped up in vintage silk and lace, maybe they will stir some inspiration! I couldn't resist slipping some of my favorite music into the bag as well. This week you get an entire playlist instead of just one song! Until next week! xo, Elizabeth Elizabeth's Press Party Playlist All My Life -- DJ Harry Collision |

| The Metropolitan Building, Long Island City | After contemplating whether or not to begin blogging I have finally decided to give it a shot. I initially thought I was going to be too busy to dedicate time to sit down and write, but I just couldn’t pass up the opportunity to connect with those that share a passion for the past. I’m hoping to use this space to give you a little insight into what inspires me, as well as a sneak peek at the inner workings of the creation of the Beyond Vintage line. Speaking of … check out this beautiful space my photographer found! There are so many places to find inspiration; I especially love the mirrored walls. The lovely and talented Eleanor Ambos, interior designer and owner of the Metropolitan Building, was a such a gracious hostess. Her aesthetic seamlessly combines the rustic with the opulent, providing the perfect location for the most recent BV photoshoot. So far, January has been a great month. Slowly but surely the Fall 2012 samples (yes, next fall!) are rolling in. Many of them are even better than we anticipated. I sketch and sketch, but we never really know how the line is going to turn out until we’re holding the samples in our hands. Thankfully, this year we planned further in advance than we have in the past and I’m so pleased with the end result. I can’t wait until the line ships in the fall so you can to see it too! Until next week, xo! Song of the Week: "Danny’s Song (Live)" by Loggins and Messina from On Stage |
